Finis Ewing papers, 1823-1841.

Incoming correspondence. Many letters are from James Smith, Rev. Ewing's nephew and editor of the Revivalist, a publication of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Most of Smith's letters relate to publishing Ewing's lectures and answering Ewing's criticism of some of Smith's writings. He also writes on the subjects of baptism, camp meetings, Andrew Jackson's religious faith, and his own church writings. Other letters are from Franceway R. Cossitt, first president of Cumberland College in Princeton, Ky.; David Laury, minister, writer, and teacher; John Young of St. Louis, Mo.; and Cumberland Presbyterian ministers William Barnett, Robert Bell, A. Benton, H. Chamberlin, George and Robert Donnell, Salmon Giddings, W. Hylpay, B.H. Pierson, and William S. Potts.
